Fondation Franco-Japonaise Sasakawa

Fondation Franco-Japonaise Sasakawa is dedicated to fostering a deeper mutual understanding between French and Japanese cultures. It accomplishes this mission through a variety of initiatives and supports Franco-Japanese projects across several domains: education, Japanese language teaching, the arts, scientific research, exchanges of people and expertise, and publishing.

The Great Britain Sasakawa Foundation

The Great Britain Sasakawa Foundation’s aim is to develop good relations between the United Kingdom and Japan, by advancing the education of the people of both nations in each other’s culture, society, and achievements. It seeks to promote mutual understanding and cooperation through financial support for activities in the arts, humanities, Japanese language, medicine, science, the environment, sports, and youth education.

The Scandinavia-Japan Sasakawa Foundation

The Scandinavia-Japan Sasakawa Foundation was established in 1985 to promote friendly relations and exchange between the peoples of the five Nordic countries and Japan, to increase international understanding and to attain peace in the world. The Foundation strives to achieve these goals by providing grants and scholarships to individuals and organizations for research, development, and education and training, mainly within medicine, the humanities, the social and natural sciences, and technology.

Nippon Communications Foundation

The Nippon Communications Foundation produces the multilingual website Nippon.com to share Japan’s politics, economy, society, culture, and more with a diverse global readership, in addition to helping organizations deliver their messages from Japan to the world and enhancing international communication.

Nippon Ginkenshibu Foundation

The Nippon Ginkenshibu Foundation promotes the traditional Japanese arts of Gin-ei (poetry recitation), Ken-bu (poetry accompanied by a sword dance), and Shi-bu (poetry accompanied by a fan dance).

Nippon Music Foundation

Established in 1974, the Nippon Music Foundation makes international contributions by loaning top-quality string instruments acquired by the Foundation. The Foundation now owns 19 Stradivarii (15 violins, 1 viola, and 3 cellos) and 2 Guarneri del Gesù violins, maintains them for future generations, and loans them gratis to young promising musicians and internationally active musicians regardless of their nationalities.

Nippon Taiko Foundation

The Nippon Taiko Foundation promotes the traditions of the taiko, or Japanese drum, both at home and abroad. It holds festivals and competitions, educates performers and teachers, and promotes international exchange.

The Japan Science Society

The Japan Science Society promotes scientific education and international ties within the scientific community. The Society has also promoted international understanding by distributing millions of Japanese books, donated by Japanese companies and libraries, to Chinese universities.

Social Welfare
Foundation for Social Contribution

Established in 1971, the Foundation’s main activity is the annual FESCO award. The achievements covered by the award are wide-ranging, including many years of service to the promotion of social welfare, international cooperation, protection and safety of the marine environment, and preservation of the natural environment. Candidates for the award are solicited every year.

Sasakawa Africa Association

The Sasakawa Africa Association (SAA) is dedicated to fostering resilient and sustainable food systems in Africa by enhancing the food security and livelihoods of smallholder farmers. By building the capacity of agricultural extension services, SAA introduces improved technologies, with a focus on regenerative practices, throughout the agricultural value chain.

The Nippon Foundation Volunteer Center

To foster a culture of volunteerism, The Nippon Foundation Volunteer Center dispatches volunteers to areas affected by natural disasters, supports volunteer groups at large-scale events, conducts reforestation activities overseas, and holds seminars to learn skills that are useful for volunteer activities.

The Nippon Foundation Telecommunications Relay Service

NFTRS was designated as the sole provider of official relay services in Japan by the Minister of Internal Affairs and Communications. Our service “interprets phone calls using sign language and text,” enabling deaf and hard of hearing people and people with speech difficulty to use the telephone. We offer interpretation services, including emergency calls, 24/7, handling over 1,000 calls daily.

The Nippon Foundation Human Milk Bank

The Nippon Foundation Human Milk Bank facilitates the nationwide system for providing safe, pasteurized donor milk to preterm infants in Japan. The organization ensures a full production cycle of pooling, pasteurizing, and testing donated breast milk. The donor milk is delivered to infants born preterm or with very low birth weight who are being treated in neonatal intensive care units (NICUs).

Japan Gateball Union

The Japan Gateball Union is an umbrella organization promoting Gateball, a unique sport that originated in Japan. Gateball can be enjoyed by people of all ages and genders, and is played in 50 countries and regions around the world. Promotional activities through Gateball contribute to creating a sense of purpose in people’s lives in an aging society, revitalizing local communities, and promoting friendship and mutual understanding between countries through international exchange.

As a think tank in the field of sports policies, the Sasakawa Sports Foundation implements a wide range of activities including survey research, collaborative work with municipalities, and international cooperation to promote Sport for All globally. Its mission is “Sport for Everyone”.

The Nippon Foundation Parasports Support Center

Under the slogan of “SOCIAL CHANGE with SPORTS,” The Nippon Foundation Parasports Support Center provides accessible shared office space to 28 national para sports federations, builds a sustainable management structure, and organizes DE&I education programs and training seminars with para athletes as lecturers.

Sasakawa-India Leprosy Foundation

S-ILF works to empower persons affected by Leprosy and their family members living in the Leprosy colonies of India. S-ILF provides livelihood opportunities for persons affected by Leprosy, vocational training, and access to higher education for youth living in Leprosy colonies. It runs special programs for holistic development of young children, advocates for the rights of persons affected by Leprosy, provides humanitarian aid during calamities, and raises awareness to combat stigma in society.

Its activities mainly focus on security and diplomacy, through exchanges, dialogue, analysis, publications, and networking.
