Collecting Donations for Peace Museum to Convey History of WarCall for donations of exhibition items and money on 75th anniversary of Battle of Imphal

The Nippon Foundation is asking for documents related to the Battle of Imphal and has begun accepting donations to support the operation of the Imphal Peace Museum.

This year marks the 75^thanniversary of the Battle of Imphal, which was one of the fiercest battles ofWorld War II and is also said to have later played a role in India’sindependence movement. Despite the historic significance of this battle, fewpeople living in the area today are familiar with that history and relateddocuments have been lost. The museum seeks to pass on this history to futuregenerations.

The Nippon Foundation is supporting theManipur Tourism Forum’s construction of a museum in Imphal in the state ofManipur, which is scheduled to open June 22, 2019, with a theme of “Peace andReconciliation.” The museum is asking for donations of documents and otherrelated items so that they can be exhibited and stored there.

1.Request for exhibition items

There are currently very few items from Japan on-site, making it difficult to present a full-fledged exhibition. On behalf of the museum, The Nippon Foundation is asking for the donation (gratis) of photographs, letters, and other items of persons involved in the Battle of Imphal so that they can be exhibited and stored there. The Nippon Foundation will receive the items and deliver them to the museum. For more information regarding how to donate items, please inquire via email to “ cc@ps.nippon-foundation.or.jp”. Items will be accepted until February 29, 2020.

2.Monetary donations to the Special Fund for the Imphal Peace Museum

The Manipur Tourism Forum will operate the museum afterit opens. Support will be needed, however, for additional construction and thetraining of technicians to handle the items’ exhibition and storage untiloperations are running smoothly. Monetary contributions to the Special Fund forthe Imphal Peace Museum will be used to train curators and build additionalstorage facilities. Donations will be accepted until March 31, 2020.

1. Funds transfers can be denominated in U.S. dollars or in euro. If you wish to make a donation denominated in another currency, please inform us of that currency and we will investigate whether arrangements can be made.
2. Donations made in foreign currencies will be converted to yen at the prevailing rate on the day the funds are received.
