Asia Philanthropy Congress

The Nippon Foundation launched the Asia Philanthropy Congress in 2022 to deepen cooperation and coordination in resolving social issues in Asia. Philanthropic activities, including both charitable activities and social contribution, have the advantage of being able to provide swift and flexible support in areas that are difficult to address through public support from government institutions, corporate activities, and social investment alone. The Asia Philanthropy Congress brings together foundations at the forefront of these types of support activities, as well as leaders in the philanthropy sector from across Asia, allowing them to work together to identify solutions.

Asia is undergoing rapid development, which is making social issues increasingly complex and multilayered.

The countries of Asia have diverse social structures and cultural backgrounds, making it difficult to find one-size-fits-all solutions. This diversity also makes it difficult for one organization to resolve issues on their own, making it important for multiple organizations to work together to find solutions.

In addition, strong partnerships are essential for making use of each other’s strengths across Asia to address issues and achieve sustainable growth.

Traditionally, providing funds has been philanthropy’s primary role, but what is needed today is leaders who are able to drive social transformation. In addition to providing funds, coordination among governments, companies, and NGOs is indispensable for creating an even greater social impact.

Against this backdrop, The Nippon Foundation hosts the Asia Philanthropy Congress annually as a place that brings together foundations from across Asia to promote the creation of frameworks for the resolution of Asian issues by Asian foundations.
